Being a girl, I am in a pretty sensitive time of month, and the forced upgrade of messenger came just today to make me feel full of rage and hatred. Since this is the only place I can rant, I'll post a huge rant.

It was just something I was never, never expecting of messenger. Since I was in middle school we all had our weird horrible nicknames with twisted letters. Then came the colors, bolds and itallics, and the awesome "subnick" (I call it that).

Making a nice nickname was an art.

The new version came and my friends who upgraded complained about, how it was horrible and there were no nicks! I never really believed the no nicks thing... how could there be no nicks? that was stupid...
Still my favorite msn was 7.0, i think that was the number, I know it was the one right before msn messenger turned into windows live. The upgrades weren't necessary but weren't horrible either.
Well, I don't upgrade things until is really necessary. I ussually don't mind facebook changes but I didn't like the last one, still, facebook is constantly upgrading, and one thing I didn't like of the new one (the dissapearing of the status box), just came back. Facebook has never been very customizable anyways.

I don't know what the messenger developers where thinking when removing the customizable nicknames, nicknames tell a lot about the person, people don't like having their full name always anyways. And it's not like the solution is just changing your hotmail name. What if I need to send a formal e-mail? I can't be *twisted simbols* , plus there is no color or emoticons.

But what worries me the most it's not that MY nick is ugly, I'm pretty plain with my name anyway, but how horrible will my contact list be?! I already have like 3 or 4 "Luis". I used to know who was who by their colors, position in the list, etc, etc. Now I'll just get a horrible and plain list of names?

For what I've read, I suppose this change is to connect messenger with facebook (for which I don't see the use). This stupid faceless corporations are taking away our individuality, and there is noone to complain to. Now it wouldn't surprise me to find we are just a registry number in a couple of updates. Oh and guess what?:

Last year all I've heard in the media is "facebook this facebook that".
Like a bunch of flies had found a big pile of poop...
You know, facebook is cool, but it's not the center of the world!

And people can just say "If you don't like it don't use it!".
Well, how we are today that's pretty hard.
I've tought (and tried) to quit facebook several times now to quit facebook and failed. Problem is, I get to know a lot of useful or important information through facebook (like rescheduled classes, or missing homework, for example), and people just take for granted that if is posted on facebook you already know. We are all just too dependant on this stuff.
Also, I don't know the life in a computer without messenger, I tried alternatives (pidgin, tri...something), but they just don't feel the same.
For a moment I wanted to just close all the social computer stuff and if somebody wanted me then they should call me to my cellphone. Then I remembered that I hated talking by the phone and that it just wouldn't work.
I hate it how this faceless corporations and how we are all so adicted and blind just makes us shut up and stick to whatever there is, even if we don't like it.

I wish I knew enough programming to just make my own messenger and facebook.

Really, the only page that has never failed me or make me want to quit is newgrounds.. Even tho a lot of people are rabid pre-teens, their creators show their faces and listen to their community, and there has never been a "bad" update in the time I've been here. Another community I like is dA, but newgrounds is my internet home, even tho I've been away for great periods of time, I do like coming back which doesn't happen with other... sites.
